I got this printer like a month ago for home. I really don't print much but I wanted a wireless printer since its the trend now, I havent set up the wireless but I have printed a couple of documents, For Pics its not that good, the contrast with the colors wasn't great, just barely ok. For documents was good. A little bit noisy when its gonna start. Its really ease to set up. It was under 0 so it was cheap, I dont print that much so i cant tell about the ink consumption.

To start off, the ONLY reason I'm giving this a 4-star instead of 5-star rating is when I bought this a year ago, I found it on sale for about 0 cheaper and of course that is a much better deal. Other than that I've had this for over a year and it works great and I love it.

Originally, I avoided all-in-ones because I heard they did everything but didn't print as well as a dedicated printer. That may or may not still be the case, but I needed the all-in-one so I reluctantly traded in my old HP Deskjet printer. I was very pleasantly surprised and found this prints a lot faster and twice as sharp so GOOD RIDDANCE to my old desk jet.

Printing is fast and clean and I like having two feeder trays for paper. I keep regular paper up front and photo paper in the back and it's easy to choose when needed. Duplex printing and copying is also a nice feature. The copies are great and sometimes difficult to tell them apart from the originals. I print a lot of photos and find they come out great too. In terms of ink usage, I haven't tracked that carefully so can't comment on whether it is efficient although consumer reports rated it as above average in this area, which is part of the reason why I bought it. I usually get my used cartridges refilled so that saves some money and works quite well.

Regarding scanning, I think it is good for documents but not especially great for photos. If you really want to scan photos, get a dedicated photo scanner, but it is OK for the occasional photo.

I thought the setup was easy and I really like the wireless feature since we mostly use wireless laptops. It is easy add to printing to another computer however you do need to run the install program but it just takes a few minutes.

We purchased this unit from Costco for office use. We are using about 3000 pages per month and this unit has performed without problem. The speed and quality is decent. Unlike a HP all-in-one N2727MF we've tried, the Brother MFC fax function is very good and without communication error. Some minor complains is that there is no page remaining count on the status display or the web access page. For paper handling, we had very few paper jam so far. The toner usage is actually higher than rated so you may need to do the "toner window mask" trick to get more toner usage.

I have owned this fax machine for about 6 months now. The main reason I got it was because my lexmark would take more than 1 sheet at a time when faxing and it drove me nuts. I also disliked changing that ink cart so often. I run a small home office and get purchase agreements faxed over about twice a week and so far Im still on the first toner cart.

Overall I am pleased with this fax machine. The only drawbacks are the lack of options like forcing it to send at a lower baud rate and some other techy settings that are available on older models.

I received this printer as a 'throw-in' when purchasing my last notebook. I wasn't expecting that much from it, just to print the ocassional letter, report, coupon, and picture. Well I was frankly blown-away by the print quality.

For written material this is about as good as it gets. Strikingly crisp text, no bleeding ever, easy to read, outstanding. By far the best text I have ever seen on an inkjet printer. Pictures have good, deep colors although I prefer to have my pictures pritned out and have only printed a handful.

Very easy to use. Changing cartridges is literally a snap, and fairly good cartridge life. And to top it off it is energy star rated. Also this has been a solid performer for me for some time, with zero problems ever. For my next printer I will defintely have Canon at the top of the list. Just very solid quality for an entry-level printer. They could have skimped, they did not. That says something for all their lines.

I purchased my Canon F50 when they first came out on the market (they were 9 at that time). I was unhappy with the streaks that my old feed through scanner was leaving on the photos that I scanned. I wanted to find something that had a flat platen for scanning, and also offered the option of an automatic document feeder. I wanted an all-in-one unit that could scan, fax, copy, and print a decent quality photo. I had made my mind up that I would like one that had separate ink tanks so I could just replace the color that had run out and not the whole cartridge. I spent a lot of time researching multifunction units and reading product reviews. The Canon Multipass F50 met all of my criteria and it had mostly good reviews so I went out and purchased one.

Some of the complaints that I read in the negative reviews really didn't matter to me. I had no intentions of using this as a network printer, and I really didn't mind the status monitor setup. I have the status monitor disabled in the msconfig system utility and then I put a shortcut to it in my start menu. It only takes a minute or so to start it up when you do need it. If you don't do a lot of printing then there is no reason to leave it on all the time.

I took out the 3 year Canon extended service plan (which I would recommend to everyone) and anytime I need help I give them a call. They have always been very helpful and I have always been able to resolve any problems with their help. I have to say that their tech support has been great.

The Canon F50 prints out a decent quality photo at a reasonable speed. Remember when printing photos that paper quality is everything! Don't expect to get professional looking photos from low quality photo papers. With the right paper you can print out really great looking photos on the F50. The only thing that I don't like is that it doesn't allow you to print borderless photos.

The ink tanks are very reasonably priced - at least for the off brand cartridges. I found a place called Neximaging.com where you can purchase off brand cartridges for as low as a cartridge!! Just remember that using any cartridges other than Canon brand cartridges will void your warranty, so you have to decide yourself if it is worth the gamble.

The fax speeds are great and its auto-retry feature comes in really handy when you are faxing to a place with busy fax lines. You can just set it and leave. It will keep trying to send the fax while you're away. The Canon F50 can be set to print out a report verifying receipt of your faxes so you will know if your fax was successful or not.

There are some things that I would change if they were to build a better model of the F50. First of all the cycle time to startup and shutdown this unit is very long and it is very noisy during this time. I think that this is when it is refreshing its heads. This is actually a good thing because it extends the life of your heads, so I can live with it. The latch that holds the cover open when you are changing ink tanks seems very weak and the cover could easily drop down on your hand while you are changing the tanks. Also, switching over to envelopes is a pain because you have to unload your paper tray, resize your tray guides, load your envelopes, print your envelope, and then resize and reload the tray again. Couldn't they have a second tray to hold the envelopes and a switch to change between the paper and the envelope trays? Oh well, I guess you can't have everything!

I never have regretted purchasing my Canon F50, although I wish that I had waited a little while until the price on them had dropped. I see what they sell for now and it makes me sick to think how much I had paid for mine. I am not going to make the same mistake twice so I have waited until now to purchase the next model up - the F80. I will be purchasing one soon and I will write a review on that one after I have had it for a while.

I was looking for a portable computer to carry with my laptop. Came across this one at Fry's. Although it was refurbished, it was marked down so much .. I decided to take a chance on it. It has been great! I don't know if I'd spend 0 for it ... but if you can find it cheaper ... grab it. You won't be sorry. It seems to go through ink quickly .. but I think that is a common problem with all printers :) There is a warning to let you know you are running low. I've had problems with trying to find ink, though. The big K or W doesn't carry Cannon 15 or 16 .. Some office supply stores do. Haven't done photo's. Bought it for documents.

This is the second MP series printer I have purchased. Don't worry, the MP500 I reviewed two years ago is still going strong, but I moved 3,000 miles to take a new teaching position and left it with my wife.

I needed a new printer, I loved the MP500, and I found this gem on sale during a back to school special at Wal-Mart for . Yup, you read that right: FORTY BONES!

I took it out of the box, plugged it in, and printed. Mac OS:X 10.4.11 recognized it immediately, even though it uses different drivers from the MP500 series. In three minutes I was printing my class rosters.

I have not tried printing photo quality because I don't print photos, but signs I've made using MS Word and business cards made using PrintFolio have turned out great. The ink has lasted over three months now with fairly steady printing.

Like the MP500, the single largest beef I have with it is the footprint. It's a big printer. However, I don't buy printers based on whether or not I can fit them in a mailbox. I want inexpensive startup, low operating cost, and reliability. Thus far, every MP series printer I've purchased has been wonderful.

By the way, I went to the Canon printers because my HP was just horrible. The day I bought this darling one of my co workers purchased an HP Photosmart C4680 "All in one" printer. While I've been printing anything that strikes my fancy and enjoying the results, she's taken that piece of joy back to the store twice and spent six working hours on hold with technical support (like they do).

Plus, she spent twice as much. I hate to say I told you so, but...

...if you're looking for low cost and reliable, this is a good choice.

I bought this machine used, advertised as working fine. I was not disappointed. It chugs away, doing what it was built to do very well.

I will admit, I wanted to get one of the Canon models that could be set up to print directly on inkjet-printable CD's, and the 6600D can be enabled to do so with the purchase of a Canon CD tray "C." The more recent models cannot be modified to do this, at least as I write this.

CD-printing is generally not enabled on US versions of the many Canon printers that possess this ability--patent issues, perhaps?

The CD-printing issue aside, I'm also tickled to watch this affordable printer suck paper in and out to print on two sides (the auto duplex feature) and I love having 2 different ways to feed paper, the automatic feeder up high and the cassette down under.

The automatic feeder on top is great because it bends the paper very little, if at all, and feeding of stock is helped by gravity. I printed some 4" by 6" photos, and sent them to my mom, who called today to say she liked them very much. Labels printed from the automatic feeder were precise and beautiful. No wasted labels!

The cassette feeder below seems to be mainly for plain paper and duplexing. It worked great also, printing out a lab report on 2 sides that I wanted to take with me to a doctor appointment.

As for the direct-CD printing, I followed the setup directions available on the internet, and ordered the tray.

Did it work? Yes it did. And all these years I've been labeling CD's with markers! First try looked great! What a great tool!

Canon D340 Digital Copier Laser Printer

When I first got this machine, I was ready to give it 5 stars. It set up easily and made fast, great quality copies. I noticed a couple of glitches but thought them minor. But after a few days I have discovered shortcomings of the unit, hence the 4-stars. I was considering 3 but figure that's too low since it does basic things well. It is a multi-purpose machine, but not all-purpose.

Pros:
* Excellent quality printing and copies
* Scan-once-print-many I think describes how the machine copies - scans a document once and prints as many copies as you order. Good feature!
* Fast (compared to my old HP LJ5P)
* Simple toner cart loading
* Allows straight-through printing for heavy stock you don't want to curl
* Fairly easy manual paper feed, but with a shut-down quirk (see below)
* Standby mode nice to save energy
* Good price after rebate

Cons:
* It's not a computer-linked scanner as I thought. Looks like one, isn't.
* Paper handling is less than stellar. Paper cartridge falls out if not handled exactly correctly, but paper doesn't come out with it, spilling all over the floor (reminds me of the card game 52 Pickup). The cartridge actually is only half a cartridge -- open at the end inside the printer, not anchored well, feels flimsy. Paper tray on my old HP 5P is years better than this one.
* Machine locks up if you feed an odd-size sheet through the manual paper feed. No way to reset it except unplug. So it prints only one odd-size sheet at a time. Print one, unplug, print another, unplug.... I'm used to a button that clears errors and resets. None on this printer. You can pre-set paper size to avoid the lockup, but sometimes I have one smaller sheet to print for which the unit does not have a setting.
* Kind of big, both footprint and height, but that may not be a problem for you.

The large block of "Cons" makes this look more negative than I feel it should, but those are the negatives I find. If you don't need a machine than scans to the computer, and if you can handle the quirky paper-feed requirements, it's great. At the price, if it were used just as a copier for a small office it would be well worth the price.

Canon PIXMA MP990 Wireless Inkjet Photo All-In-One Printer (3749B002)

As the sad, former owner of the Canon Pixma models MP 860 and 980, it's a relief to experience the MP990. A pitch-perfect (but awfully loud) scanner that fires up instantaneously and generates high-res digital facsimiles accurately. A reliable copy function. A control panel that is fully intuitive and a wide array of data input options from Flash media to SD data cards. A roughly competitive negative duplication function. Fair-to-reasonable ink consumption for a photo printer (although, with reduced picoliter size, ink usage is more economical than in earlier MP models.) Output on Canon paper is splendid and print speed uneven but generally faster than earlier models.

Where the printer falls short is in its set-up complexity for wireless network operations. Because of its modest frequency sensitivity and awkward WiFi configuration process, this unit could easily consume two to three hours of set-up and, in certain environments, even more. Running a MacBook Pro with Intel Duo Processors on OSX 10.5.8, I found the network set-up process cumbersome and -- because the drivers for this model are a bit buggy (#306 communication errors occur intermittently) I found Canon's software in need of an update. Their attempt to address the Error#306 issue is cursory at best.

The bundled photo software is adequate. The Network and Printer Set-up Utilities are, at best, spare in their functionality.

Set-up and wireless performance aside, this printer rates an easy "5," but because of its set-up and wireless networking lapses, I must rate this one "4" for the sake of fellow-customers.

I've been a faithful Canon customer for 25 years and currently have five Canon printers and two Canon cameras on-site. This AIO is the best of the bunch; however, less complicated -- and stable -- set-up for wireless networking is a must. Granted, it may not be an issue for some Windows users, but it was for me.
